Costs
Website hosting and maintenance costs in Australia
The quick answer
Website hosting and maintenance costs depend on who keeps the site running and who makes changes. Kavera's managed hosting is $199 a year plus GST. Website Care is $40 a month plus GST and includes hosting, checks and limited edits. Compare annual renewals, support scope and included services before adding plans together.

Key takeaways
- Kavera's Website Care costs $480 a year plus GST with managed hosting included.
- Launch and Launch Plus monthly subscriptions already include hosting and maintenance.
- An introductory hosting price can apply only to the first invoice, so compare the renewal as well.
- Website software, business email, domain registration and content work can have separate costs.
Website hosting and maintenance costs in Australia are easiest to compare when you separate the services on the invoice. A server subscription, someone checking your enquiry form and a designer changing your service pages are different purchases. They may come in one package but the work still needs a named owner.
We publish our website hosting and care pricing, including the distinction between basic hosting and hands-on support. The figures below use those prices and provider pages checked on 9 October 2026. They are examples you can price against your own scope, rather than an Australian market average.1
What are you paying for after a website launches?
Start with the jobs that need doing. Then check whether your chosen platform, website subscription or care provider already covers each one.
| Cost | What it pays for | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting | Serving the site to visitors | Is this already inside the platform or website plan? |
| Domain | Renewing the website address | Who holds the account and receives renewal notices? |
| Software maintenance | Updating the software your site uses | Who checks that the update has not broken the site? |
| Backups | Keeping recoverable copies | What is saved, how long is it kept and who restores it? |
| Monitoring | Detecting outages or other agreed problems | Does an alert trigger a response or only an email? |
| Content edits | Changing words, images or business details | How much time is included and what counts as a minor edit? |
| Business email | Mailboxes for the team | Is email separate from website hosting? |
| Search work | Improving and measuring search visibility | Which pages and activities are included each month? |
This is a scope checklist. A provider can include several rows in one charge. Avoid adding the price of every row before reading the inclusions.
For example, a salon may need a price-list update and a working link to its external booking system. A builder may need new project photographs and a project page. Those requests take different amounts of work even if both sites run on the same hosting plan.
What do Kavera's hosting and care plans cost?
Managed Hosting is $199 a year plus GST. Website Care is $40 a month plus GST. Visibility Starter is $197 a month plus GST and adds a defined amount of light SEO upkeep. All three include hosting, SSL, backups, platform maintenance and uptime monitoring.1
| Kavera option | Published charge, before GST | Annual recurring total, before GST | Additional work included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managed Hosting | $199/year | $199 | Hosting and platform maintenance; content changes quoted separately |
| Website Care | $40/month | $480 | Security and form checks, basic support and up to 30 minutes of minor changes per month |
| Visibility Starter | $197/month | $2,364 | Website Care plus the published light SEO upkeep |
The annual monthly-plan totals are our calculations: 12 × $40 = $480 and 12 × $197 = $2,364. They assume 12 months at the current price. They exclude domain registration and separately scoped work.
Website Care therefore costs $281 more per year before GST than Managed Hosting. That difference buys the care-plan inclusions. It is not a second hosting bill or a claim that every business needs monthly support.
Kavera note: Our $40 monthly Website Care price includes managed hosting. Adding $199 to its $480 annual total would count hosting twice.
Visibility Starter covers Search Console and analytics setup and monitoring, a monthly SEO health check, one small on-page fix and a monthly search snapshot. The fix is one page title, description, heading or internal link improvement. Keyword research, content writing, Business Profile management and link building belong to the separate SEO plans.1
If you are comparing a proposal, copy those inclusions into separate lines. A price alone cannot tell you whether the provider will write a new service page or update a phone number.
Is hosting already included with a new website?
It can be. Kavera's monthly Launch and Launch Plus subscriptions include hosting and maintenance. The upfront options include first-year hosting and then renew at $199 a year plus GST. Ongoing care is optional for those upfront options.1
Use the one-year and three-year website cost table for the complete purchase calculations. Those totals include the build or setup and stated hosting charges, so they should not be compared with a hosting-only invoice. Domain registration and additional work remain separate.
Kavera note: Launch Plus has a $499 setup fee on the monthly option. Its $2,500 upfront option replaces both that setup fee and the monthly subscription. The two payment paths should stay separate in your budget.
What do you own and who manages it after handover?
For Launch, the $599 + GST upfront purchase gives ownership from day one. The $199 + GST setup plus $49/month + GST path transfers ownership after 12 months of payments. Ownership covers the domain, content and site. Kavera hands over the site as its own repository and deployment on request. After month 12, you can keep Kavera managing it at $49/month + GST or take it over and end that management.
| Item | What to establish before changing providers |
|---|---|
| Domain | Registration remains separately charged; confirm account access, renewal contact and DNS control |
| Launch site and content | Use the ownership timing for your chosen payment path and arrange repository and deployment handover |
| Launch Plus or another package | Read its own agreement; Launch's 12-month ownership rule does not establish identical terms |
| Hosting and maintenance | Name the next provider and start date before existing management ends |
| Email and third-party tools | Confirm account access and licences separately; moving the site does not automatically move them |
Ownership is separate from ongoing service. Confirm migration labour, paid licences and any export limits in the scope rather than assuming handover makes every future transfer free.
How do direct hosting and platform prices compare?
Direct hosting can have a lower headline fee because the provider is selling a narrower service. The comparison needs the renewal terms and the person responsible for the website above that hosting layer.
VentraIP's Business Hosting page showed an Entry offer of $5.50 per month against a listed $11 monthly price when checked. Its discount applies to the first invoice for a new hosting purchase for up to one year. That is a reason to record both prices rather than treating the promotional figure as a permanent annual budget. Confirm the selected billing term and tax treatment before comparing its checkout total with a quote.2
Shopify's Australian page listed Basic at $42 AUD per month when paid yearly or $56 AUD per month when paid monthly. Hosting and SSL were included. The subscription arithmetic is $504 or $672 for 12 months respectively, before any additional charges or tax applicable to the account. Apps, paid themes and outside store support can add costs.3
| Buying model | What to compare first | What needs a separate answer |
|---|---|---|
| Direct hosting account | Normal renewal, capacity and backup terms | Website updates, troubleshooting and content edits |
| Hosted ecommerce platform | Billing cycle and included platform features | Apps, themes, payment costs and support labour |
| Managed website care | Named tasks and monthly editing allowance | Extra pages, major changes and response commitments |
| Website subscription | Setup plus recurring fee and included site scope | Ownership, exit terms and work beyond the package |
None of these models makes a separate responsibility list unnecessary. A host can keep a server available while a booking link on the site points to the wrong calendar.
Which maintenance tasks are worth paying someone to handle?
Pay for the tasks you need and cannot reliably cover yourself. Write down who checks the important customer journey, who can restore the site and who changes business information when it becomes wrong.
For a small enquiry website, a practical review can include opening the mobile menu, checking telephone and email destinations, confirming the published opening hours and arranging an authorised test of the enquiry delivery path. Reading a success message alone does not establish that an enquiry reached the right inbox.
For a store, ask about responsibility for theme changes, app compatibility and purchase testing. For a content-heavy site, clarify whether publishing new projects is included or whether the care allowance covers only small corrections.
The limits should be concrete. Up to 30 minutes of minor changes is a time allowance. It does not promise a complete new page every month. Ask what happens when a request exceeds the allowance and whether unused time carries over. Do not assume either answer.
Keep urgent repair terms separate from routine changes. Ask how to report a fault, when the provider responds and what is charged if the problem is outside the agreed service. An uptime monitor is useful but its presence alone does not tell you how quickly a person will fix a fault.
How should you compare two website maintenance quotes?
Put both quotes into a 12-month table with the same inclusions and tax basis. Then compare the ongoing responsibility and exit terms.
- Record the setup charge, ordinary renewal and any promotion end date.
- Cross out duplicate hosting, SSL or backup costs already included elsewhere.
- Name the included checks and editing allowance beside each charge.
- Add the domains, email, software and extra work your business needs.
- Ask who controls the accounts and what a transfer or cancellation involves.
Keep domain access in that last step. Moving website files and transferring control of a domain are separate jobs. Before a move, establish who can update the domain records and how business email will continue working. A cheaper renewal is of little use if the business cannot access its own accounts.
Our website hosting and care pricing gives you a starting scope for that comparison. Send the current platform, the work you want handled and the frequency of changes when discussing an option. Those details are more useful than choosing a maintenance plan from the size of the monthly fee alone.
Common questions
How much is Kavera website hosting per year?
Kavera's Managed Hosting costs $199 a year plus GST. It includes hosting, SSL, backups, platform maintenance and uptime monitoring. Domain registration is separate. Website Care includes managed hosting within its $40 monthly fee plus GST, so you do not add a second hosting charge to that plan.
What happens to my Launch website if I leave?
Launch ownership starts on day one with the $599 upfront option or after 12 months on the $199 setup plus $49 monthly option. Kavera hands over the site as its own repository and deployment on request. After month 12, continued management is optional. Arrange who handles hosting and maintenance next. Prices are plus GST; Launch Plus terms need separate confirmation.
Does hosting include someone changing my website?
Hosting does not automatically include content edits. Check the provider's inclusion list for labour, time limits and exclusions. Kavera's Managed Hosting has changes quoted separately. Website Care includes up to 30 minutes of minor changes per month. A new page, redesign or integration may require a separate scope even when you have a care plan.
Do I need separate hosting for a Shopify store?
Shopify lists web hosting and an SSL certificate as included with its plans. You still need to budget for the selected subscription and any extra apps, paid theme, domain or outside support. A separate agency maintenance charge should explain the work being supplied rather than charge again for hosting already included by the platform.
Is a website care plan the same as SEO?
A care plan usually keeps the site available and working within a defined maintenance scope. Ongoing SEO adds search research, content and other work. Kavera separates Website Care from Visibility Starter and its broader SEO plans. Choose the work you need and compare the specific inclusions instead of assuming maintenance will improve search rankings.
